How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? -
Owoodi Smith: Life for Owoodi (Woodi) has been anything but normal. From a very early age Woodi was taught the ways of the wild and how to not only survive growing up in a hostile environment but thrive.
Woodi’s tribe, the Earth Watchers, resided in forested lands inhabited by all manner of creature and danger alike. Never a dull moment they would say.
Raids and assaults were a real part of everyday life for the Earth Watchers clan. Fighting and defense was therefore wrought into the clan members from a very young, with those that lived long enough the battles for mere survival being fought day in and day out.
It was one such raid that led Woodi to the situation he’s currently in. Early one night as, dusk fell upon the local lands, a chilling sound reverberated through the trees, a roar from the mouths of several beasts could be heard.
The fearsome bellowing of evil creatures they would say, announcing the latest in what seemed like an escalating of incidents for the clan. A mist had settled over the village, drifting in from the surrounding forest. An unusual sight as fog was only ever seen during winter, with summer being the current season.
It was this mist that the villagers were afraid of for many a tale began with the words “from the mist they came” and the stories that would be told of the days events would be no different. From the mist they came, after a great roar announced their arrival, the devils bounded into the town and the last battle of the Earth Watchers began.
Most of the tribes people were in their homes, having dinner or, as in the case of Woodi, were sharing drinking stories at the local when the roar was heard. Lightning fast reactions, the donning of leathers and retrieval of weapons or the casting of wards and spells, as well as the flow of adrenaline all contributing to the rapid response the locals could muster.
The defense of the townsfolk foremost in their minds the warriors of the clan rushed to where screams and the sounds of the dying could be heard. But what they found when they reached it, was a sight the likes of which they had never seen, assaulted their very souls with revulsion and disgust. Bodies lay everywhere, not just bodies but body parts were strewn everywhere, not a single untouched area of earth could be seen the blood covered everything, all of it from the locals’ bodies.
Then from a house nearby another scream. Hate and anger welled within, the emotions overriding the natural instinct to fight or flight leaving only one thing left: revenge. Rushing to the house our party of around 8 warriors burst though the front doors, weapons raised and ready to bring it on.
It’s pitch black within, the light having been extinguished during the initial struggle. A sickly smell of copper and death assaulted the senses immediately, halting the first to enter instantly in their tracks and they searched for an enemy to engage. None could be seen. The enemy seemingly vanishing after the slaughter of the occupants.
Yet the enemy had not left. The enemy was not yet finished in this house. From the upper level of the house a baby’s cries could be heard. The creaking of the floorboards heralding a large form, moving towards the bub slowly, but with purpose. Rushing up the internal stairs the first of the group, Ogvai, who lay eyes on the attacker did not even have the time to speak a warning to the others, for he was dead before the words left his mouth.
Woodi rounded the top of the stairs second only to be knocked back by the corpse of his fellow defender as it was sent hurtling through the air towards to opposite end of the hallways they were in.
Cursing in his clans tongue and pushing what was left of Ogvai off his body Woodi took in the scene at the before him. Bloody foot prints leading to the babies room but not into it.
The fallen weapons of Ogvai, discarded as he was dispatched, lay halfway up the hallway. But no enemy could be seen, the darkness clinging to the area like sap from the local talls sticks to clothing.
Then, just as Woodi believed the enemy had vanished, eyes the colour of deepest red yet filled an unholy blaze, appeared in the rafters. Then a head, the size immense and threatening dissolved from the shadowy expanse, aimed directly at Woodi.
A sensation close to fear but more to rage filled Woodi with such vehemence that he sprang from his crouched position next to the limp form of Ogvai and leapt towards the evil presenting itself. His axe was bought up in a double-handed overhead swing to cleave the foe in twain.
His leap true and his aim perfect the beast was split from head to tail. The Frost Lion, for it could be no other creature, were usually found far north from the forest lands of Earth Watchers. But these were not the proud eyes of a primary predator from the icy plains. These eyes were filled with evil and bloodlust of such potency that could not be natural in occurrence. These creatures were being controlled by another… To be continued….
An evil shaman (Lord Horus) who was once exiled from our clan for the use in dark magiks, sought revenge and possessed 5 Frost wolfs and one pack leader Frost Wolf and sent them to slaughter our village.
The warriors and ritual casters from our village managed to kill the 5 standard Frost wolfs before getting killed leaving the pack leader and shaman for Owoodi. The Frost Wolf pack leader fled back to the shaman thinking all the villagers were dead.
Owoodi was knocked unconscious however and followed the tracks back to the shamans hide out. After an exhausting duel with the Frost Wolf pack leader Owoodi finally slay the beast with an overhead slice killing the beast and taking revenge for his village. The shaman, having lost his precious possessed turned his deadly magiks on Owoodi.
But Owoodi shrugged off the barrage of arcane to charge into battle with the blood lust for justice. Taking the head from the shaman, Owoodi cries to the heavens, beseeching the gods keep his kin safe. With no village left and nothing to keep him Owoodi ventures forth into the world to seek purpose once more.
Then skip a few years ahead and he's working in the town when the Motivations adventure starts :) (those few years worth of inside information is for the DM only)
